Make no mistake. There are poor among us who have desparate needs. But what about who we don't see. We have "the working poor" among us.
The AMA's Voice for the Uninsured ad campaign states that 1 in 7 Americans is uninsured. Many women and children we serve are uninsured. More than 47 million Americans are uninsured and almost
80 percent come from working families. Of those some 20 percent are children. The working poor in America... and the widows and the single mothers... Can you really tell who needs our help?
Some women and children are homeless; most are living below the poverty level.
